Droids & Dragons Author, Angela G. Williams

Pub 518 welcomes back Angela G. Williams. She is originally from South Africa but now resides in the USA.
"I have been writing for several years, exploring genres that span from historical mysteries to gothic fiction. My writing is heavily informed by my professional background as a genealogist and historian; I am fascinated by the "paper trails" of the past and the ways that knowledge and craft are passed down through generations. I started writing to bridge the gap between the lived history I uncover in the archives and the darker, more whimsical narratives that have always captured my imagination."
Angela is an established independent author. Her work includes the Milo the Moss children's series. She has also contributed to various anthologies, including Catskill Chaos published by 518 Publishing Company in 2025.
We asked Angela who has influenced her writing and she said, "My storytelling is deeply influenced by the gothic atmosphere of Daphne du Maurier. Her ability to weave lingering dread and mystery into the landscape of a story is something I strive for in my own work. I am also heavily inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien; as a fellow South African, his unparalleled mastery of world-building and the way he treated mythology as a form of deep history has been a foundational influence on my writing."
The title of Angela's short story in Droids & Dragons is 'The Last Dragon Mechanic'. "The inspiration came from my interest in the intersection of biology and machinery—the idea that a dragon might be something grown and engineered rather than just a mythological beast. It explores how we pass down crafts and knowledge across generations."
This standout snippet from 'The Last Dragon Mechanic' will mesmerize you and make you forget your phone.
"At the apex of its climb, it gave a cry that made the earth below, and all that stood upon it, shiver. It was a sound no recording could ever quite hold, too much brass and thunder and grief in it."
We all have our favorite authors, and with Angela it's J.R.R. Tolkien which is no surprise. "J.R.R. Tolkien is always at the top of my list for the sheer depth and richness of his created worlds. I also find myself frequently returning to Shirley Jackson for her mastery of psychological and atmospheric gothic tension."
Superpowers are important to writers and with Angela it's Historical and genealogical research. "As a professional genealogist and historian, I love tracing narratives and uncovering the "paper trails" that bring a story's world to life, ensuring even my fiction feels deeply grounded and lived-in."
