Droids & Dragons Author, Buffy the Bard

Pub 518 welcomes Buffy the Bard, author and poet to the Droids & Dragons team.
"I’ve been writing since my mother insisted that I find a less physical outlet for my imagination — less I end up with more injuries than baby teeth.
The concept of creating, and in essence, participating in the types of adventures and experiments I yearned for opened up a world of possibilities to me. Suddenly, I could not only dream up my own Pokémon battles and pirate voyages and rescue missions, but I had the means to share them, too. My mom helped me channel my recklessness into readability, and I’ve been hooked ever since."
Buffy is a well-published romantasy author. "I have published before, though not under this pen name. I’m actually in the process of rewriting a number of those older works and combining them into a new romantasy series — where Buffy the Bard calls home. I’d prefer to direct people to the newer versions, as I won’t be continuing the others. You can find my work (in progress) at www.theseekersguildhq.com, if you’re interested!"
We asked Buffy which book or author influenced her writing the most and she said, "I think that the writers at Marvel and DC were largely influential to me, growing up. I remember the character and rising stakes of the heroes, heroines, and villains alike that I admired, and I still strive to showcase my favorite elements of both aspects in everything I write.
Alan Moore’s The Watchmen was one of the first graphic novels I read, and both the introspection and rivalry between Dr. Manhattan & Ozymandias still gets to me. Arguments for the greater good and one’s own capabilities, and how those two things can either clash or harmonize; all a matter of perspective.
Recently, I’ve found myself a fan of Shonda Rhimes as well — her skill for setting the scene and capturing it with a full range of emotion is incredibly inspiring. Props to the actors, too! And who doesn’t love a sprinkle (or two) of spice? If you don’t, maybe don’t go check out my work, haha."
Buffy's poem in Droids & Dragons is 'Icarus & the Sun Dragon' and the inspiration came directly from the world she's currently writing. "Icarus runs a tavern in the kingdom of Solaris, and Buffy is a traveling bard is this world, who’s fond of collecting and retelling stories of lore and legends alike. This piece is one of many, and my idea is to have Buffy submit to anthologies to share tales of Terra Ciona."
We asked Buffy what she thought about her poem, 'Icarus & the Sun Dragon', and this was her response, "My favorite snippet would have to be the last stanza. I just love a good reference!"

Such is the legend of Icarus Moss,
Now artisan of the dancing tongue.
Served chilled with a tale from a Mrs. Moss,
About how her Icarus bested the sun.

Icarus & the Sun Dragon is a must-read poem, and you can find it in the 2026 anthology, Droids & Dragons. It's now available on Amazon and other platforms.
