As we ramp up for the release of Pub 518's 8th anthology, Droids & Dragons, we pay tribute to the authors you'll find behind the book cover.
Pub 518 welcomes Daniel Miltz to the team. Daniel lives in New Hampshire, U.S.A., and has been writing since his road days in the 1960s, when travel, observation, and the search for meaning became part of his daily life.
"Writing began as a way to capture fleeting moments, dreams, and conversations that might otherwise disappear. Over the years, it evolved into a lifelong practice of exploring imagination, memory, and the human spirit."
Daniel is a published author. His books include 'Kaleidoscope of Dreams' and 'Poetry Dreamer', both collections that reflect his fascination with dreams, symbolism, and the unseen worlds that exist alongside our own.
When asked what author influenced his storytelling style the most, Daniel's response, "The book that influenced me most is 'On the Road' by 'Jack Kerouac'. Kerouac's spontaneous prose, sense of freedom, and willingness to embrace life's mysteries helped shape my own approach to storytelling. His work taught me that writing can be both a journey and a destination."
Daniel's flash fiction, 'Ghost Lit Dragon' is featured in Pub 518's 2026 anthology, Droids & Dragons. His inspiration for the story traces back to his childhood fascination with dragon fairy tales, fiery adventures, myths, and legends. "Those stories ignited my imagination and instilled a sense of wonder that has never left me. In this piece, I wanted to blend that timeless mythology with futuristic imagery and a dreamlike atmosphere."
A snippet from Ghost Lit Dragon by Daniel Miltz:
'In the cathedral hangar, a goddess hung suspended above the assembly floor, no longer flesh, only light.'
"I enjoy this line because it captures the fusion of technology, spirituality, and myth that runs throughout the piece."
Daniel's favorite book remains 'On the Road' by 'Jack Kerouac. His thoughts on the novel, "Its energy, honesty, and sense of discovery continue to inspire me decades after I first read it."
Writers have superpowers and Daniel's is adaptability. "I can shift tone, style, and perspective quickly, allowing me to move comfortably between poetry, speculative fiction, dream narratives, and reflective prose. This flexibility helps me explore new ideas while staying true to my voice. Stories endure because they connect us to something larger than ourselves. Whether through ancient dragons, futuristic droids, dreams, or memories, I believe literature invites us to rediscover wonder. 'Ghost Lit Dragon' is my attempt to honor that tradition while imagining what myths might look like in worlds yet to come."
Droids & Dragons is available for preorder. The drop date is 9/25/2026.
