Pub 518 continues to spotlight the authors in the 2026 anthology, Droids & Dragon.
Meet T.A. Jenkins who is an author from across the pond. He's a queer writer from South Wales, UK.
"I've always been a big reader, so I've wanted to be a writer since I was a child; I started writing more seriously about ten years ago."
This is T. A.'s first time as a Pub 518 author. He has self-published 2 books, Fables of Flower, Gemini Case Files, and recently published several short stories, in Troublemaker Firestarter, A Coup of Owls, I Haven't Seen You Since High School, and The Anthropocene Epic.
Authors find inspiration and influence from what they read. With T.A., it was anything by Terry Pratchett. "I inhaled his books as a child. I also used to read a lot pulpy second hand SFF/Horror books."
T.A.'s short story in Droids & Dragon is, 'Gotta Be Dragons'. "I was intrigued by the idea of mashing together sci-fi and fantasy. What would happen if aliens visited a fantasy world? Some of its influences are definitely Pratchett and British sit-coms from my youth."
When a writer pens a tale, some part of the story will always stand out. With 'Gotta Be Dragons', it's this snippet:
“Everything’s dragons to you, Merv.” Dai the landlord clumsily topped him up, and Mervyn took a chug while his friend continued, “You said it was dragons last year when we had that terrible storm and it was just a storm. And you said the same thing a couple months ago about…”
“But that one really was a dragon, Dai.”
T.A.'s favourite author will always be Terry Pratchett, but his favourite recent read is 'The Left Hand of Darkness' by Ursula K Le Guin. "I think about that book a lot since I read it."
Having a superpower is a must for a writer. Its persistence with T.A. "I think. I can't leave stories unfinished."
