Why should you (eventually) publish everything you write?

You shouldn’t. It’s not worth the time to edit lots of smaller pieces to get to the point of being publishable. Furthermore not everything that I’ve written is worth everyone’s time to read ever. I need the space and time to learn, explore, and experiment in my craft.

The only way that this might be functional is if you adopt what painters have done for 100s of years. If they don’t like a painting, they paint over it. In the same way I’ve certainly taken ideas from my first novels and written better stories using them with my current writing ability. Still, there are trunk novels that won’t be seeing the light of day, ever.
