Due to the interests of her parents Shannon Kauderer was almost born at a science fiction convention. The science theme stuck as Shannon took to her own interests, getting a BS in Chemistry while writing her own science fiction on the side. Throughout that time National Novel Writing Month (NNWM) was a key factor in achieving her writing goals. When she got a job in the Albany area she knew that she wanted to support NNWM by becoming the regional Municipal Liaison.
